Volunteer

Volunteers are the backbone of our non-profit community theatre.

From our stage crews, costumes, props, set construction and decor to painting, sound, lighting and projection, Front of House supporters, President and Board Members, and of course, our actors – all are volunteers, mostly from Durham Region.

We currently have a large, diverse group of volunteers on whom we can call. Those who work Front of House on show nights range in age from about 15 into their 80’s. Some have been OLT members and volunteers for more than 20 years!

Many volunteers start with Front of House, then move to other areas of interest or even audition for shows! They also host information booths about our theatre and its productions at events to bring a diverse, inclusive community of members, subscribers, and patrons to OLT.

While actors are sought through audition notices, we periodically run a general recruitment drive for volunteers, and sometimes, for specific roles which need to be filled. Volunteers then work with managers or crews to determine need, skill level, availability, and schedules. Orientation and training are provided.

OLT also supports completion of the Ontario secondary school requirement of completion of 40 hours of community involvement for graduation.

Currently, we need to fill the following volunteer positions for Front of House on show nights and matinees (shows typically run from Thursday nights to Saturdays or Sundays):

  • Bartenders (min. age 18, must have valid Ontario Smart Serve Certificate)*
  • Greeters/Seat Ushers

* (OLT may reimburse the Smart Serve course registration fee upon provision of Certificate of completion and fulfillment of a minimum number of volunteer hours.)
